Intro to the 2009 Season

Chili Dan, here.  For as quiet as the Bears offseason has been (Jay Cutler and not much else), it has been quite an offseason for Dawn and me.  Like pretty much everybody, we became newly aware of the economy.  Oh yeah, money is good, as long as you've got some.

Well, because we wanted to remain in the category of people who still have some money, we got to thinking about what we could do to stretch what we have.  And because we are totally dedicated to the website, our money-saving was going to have to live peacefully with two brand new chilies every week.

Now, I gotta tell ya, we come to this problem with a serious disadvantage.  You see, fact is, we are big-time Foodies.  Great-tasting is great living, and we knew we weren't going to be willing to give that up.  We were spending a LOT of money on groceries, my friend.  How much, you ask?  Well...

Brace yourself - on average, our little family of two (OK, four when you count the Chili Dogs) was spending upwards of 800-1000 dollars a month on groceries!  And that did NOT count the extra we were spending on restaurant food.  The next time around, I'll have to tell you about just how that kind of thing happens, how two people can spend THAT much on groceries.

But needless to say, it had to stop.

So, to combat this unruly wastefulness AND get us ready for our upcoming Bears season, we turned our lives into a test lab dedicated to the proposition of eating well without dropping that kind of cash.  We've been at this since April and have had our share of success AND failure.  And we'll be telling you all about it, the good and the bad, as well as stories from the Bears and Training Camp in the days and weeks ahead.

And right after the last Bears pre-season game on September 3rd, we'll be rolling out the first chili match-up of 2009 with two brand new chilies for the the Bears at Green Bay opener (Sunday night, September 13th).

We've got a great 2009 in store for you.  If we're not already on your Favorites List, you might want to take care of that right now.
